Sean is running as a Democrat in the June primary. He’ll be up against our current representative, Jimmy Panetta, along with two Republicans, a Libertarian, and two unaffiliated candidates. This is not like Presidential primaries, which are organized by party. If Sean comes in second, he’ll face off with the winner (most likely Jimmy Panetta) in the general election in November.

I know that Jimmy Panetta has support in District 19, but I’m concerned about his record on foreign policy and the fact that his largest donors include military contractors and AIPAC. I can’t help but be troubled by what’s happening in the world with our government’s support—both as an anthropologist and a human. And when Congress prioritizes military spending (and military solutions to global problems), this affects our collective ability to address domestic issues I also really care about, from campaign finance to the Medicaid funding (key to Millie's life) to environmental justice and immigrant rights.

If you are interested or even just a little bit curious, I’d love it if you could come. There will be quiche, and you’ll have a chance to meet Sean. He’s a great guy – an Apple programmer who quit his job to run for office, mostly because he has a three-year-old son, and he’s worried about the world his kid will be living in someday.
