Jimmy Panetta's Vote: A Betrayal of Principles

Jimmy Panetta was one of the 128 Democrats who voted against moving forward with the impeachment of Donald Trump for his war crime of bombing Iran. This action not only violated international law but also breached the U.S. Constitution. The president cannot unilaterally declare war; that power lies with Congress. Notably, Trump initiated this conflict just as Congress was preparing to vote on it, clearly circumventing democratic processes.

This vote comes just a week and a half after the No Kings protest, where record numbers of Americans stood up against Trump’s actions. Yet, Panetta chose to ignore the will of the people. He claims to oppose Trump, but when it matters most—when it’s time to cast a vote—he falls short.

Panetta has also expressed horror over Trump’s ICE raids, which are characterized by their paramilitary nature—agents often conceal their identities and conduct operations without proper oversight. Despite his rhetoric, when given the chance to vote against these actions, he supported them, even thanking ICE for “keeping our country safe.”

It’s clear that Jimmy Panetta is a Donald Trump Democrat. Both his impeachment vote and his support for ICE align with resolutions that ultimately support Israel, a key factor influenced by his top donor: the Israel lobby. This raises serious questions about who he truly represents.

We need representatives who prioritize the interests of their constituents over special interests. That’s why I, Sean Doherty, am running for office in 2026.
