Americans want an affordable health care system. Politicians promise support for programs like Medicare for All, which has overwhelming popularity across party lines—about 80% of Democrats and over 60% of Americans overall are in favor.

Jimmy Panetta claims to support Medicare for All and is a co-sponsor of the bill in this session. However, he recently voted to condemn the horrors of socialism, raising questions about his commitment. This vote coincided with Zoran Mamdani's visit to the White House and appeared to target Mamdani’s victory, as the bill's introduction highlighted his socialist agenda as a negative influence on America. The bill addressed key issues that Mamdani campaigned on, such as the cost of living crisis encompassing affordable public transportation, housing, and food.

Panetta's position is unclear. While he claims to support Medicare for All, he is among the few co-sponsors who also voted against socialism. His reliability on this issue is questionable; if a close vote arises, he may switch sides and vote against Medicare for All.

What is needed is a representative who demonstrates ideological consistency. With Panetta, there is uncertainty regarding his true stance on significant issues, as he often aligns with party leadership rather than expressing a clear position.
